A popular production house had acquired the rights of “Chasing the Brigand”

Yesteryear Veerappan best known as “Sandalwood smuggler Veerappan”, was an Indian bait who defied and ruled the forest with a small army and smuggled tons of Sandalwood and ivory and, poached elephant trunks and other natural resources covering about 6,000 km² in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Operation Cocoon was launched by the STF of Tamil Nadu Police to nab the forest brigand Veerappan and his associates. Veerappan was executed by the STF force headed by Vijayakumar in 2004 after which the IPS officer had penned down his experience in the operation titled “Chasing the Brigand”. Several movies have already been filmed on the late forest ruffian. However recently E4 entertainment production house has acquired the rights of the book which revolves around the keyhole of incidents in the operation.

The production house had shared a statement, which reads as, “E4 Entertainment a production house based out of Chennai has acquired the copyright of the book Chasing the Brigand written by IPS Vijaykumar for making a feature film or Web Series. Any web series or feature film replicating the book , it’s episodes in parts or as a whole or any characters in the book or their mannerisms as depicted in the books is liable for damages and legal action for copyright infringement.E4 entertainment was to start the web series immediately on lifting of the lockdown and restrictions on outdoor shooting is lifted. The detailing in the book about STF operations, characters including STF chief Mr. Vijayakumar IPS and many in the police force, their characteristics ans stories , STF operations and other detailing as told in the book comes under copyright and anyone violating the copyright will be liable for legal action and damages.”
