Jayam Ravi’s “Bhoomi” to be streamed on OTT?

Almost six months into the coronavirus lockdown and the unprecedented disruption in the film business, the strain caused by the mammoth commercial setback is evident as producers of some of the most anticipated movies have decided not to wait for their theatrical release and instead opt for their ‘world premiere’ on OTT platforms. Some of the much-awaited summer releases, including Surya’s “Soorarai Pottru” and Vijay Sethupathi’s “Ka Pae Ranadinsham” are headed for a world premiere on Amazon Prime Video and Zee plex, the next big ticket film to join the bandwagon is Jayam Ravi’s “Bhoomi”.

Majority of the OTT viewers didn’t carry much regional content and left the potential audience at bay and now the leading OTT platform has now dropping big films and acquiring potential films to keep their regional subscriber base stronger. Jayam Ravi’s 25th venture is helmed by director Lakshaman which marks the third collaboration of the duo after Romeo-Juliet and Bogan. The film which revolves around the plight of farmers features Nidhi Agarwal, Sathish in the pivotal roles. The film is produced by Sujatha Vijayakumar under the banner of Home Movie Makers. The film which was busy with its post production work has now reportedly locked a deal with a Disney+ Hotstar and the digital and TV rights is bagged by Star Vijay. However, there is no official information from the makers. If the rumour mills are true then this marks the first Kollywood film to be streamed directly on Disney Hotstar.
