“Kumki” duo to join hands after 8 years

Director Prabhu Solomon love affair with hills and forests might explain the inexplicable magic that permeates every scene of his movies. After the successful flight of the frail and pint-sized Mynaa, Prabu Solomon tracks a mammoth beast in Kumki. Kumki is one of those films that brought tears to the eyes of the Tamil audience. The tragic drama, in spite of breaking hearts, turned out to be a huge hit. The moving story is about an elephant and its mahout.The film released in 2012 and made a huge impact in Tamil cinema. The simple story is about a mahout Bomman (Vikram Prabhu) who comes to the wild, untamed, and beautiful forests of Adhi Kadu (in the region of Panimalai, Marthandam), to prevent the attacks of a wild elephant known as Komban who has been causing devastation in the area. The director is now helming the sequel of the blockbuster drama.

This marked the debut movie for the lead actors Vikram Prabhu and Lakshmi Menon. After a promising debut the two actors went on to be one among the sought out faces in the industry. Lakshmi Menon was in Class 8 when she made her acting debut in a supporting role in the 2011 Malayalam film Raghuvinte Swantham Raziya. A year later, she made her debut as a leading lady in the critically acclaimed Tamil drama Sundarapandian. After that, she went on to work in films such as Kumki, Pandiya Nadu and Jigarthanda, and made rapid strides in Kollywood with several hits. Vikram Prabhu on the other hand had a steady career graph and his last release was Mani Ratnam’s production venture, Vaanam Kottatum.

Tamil actors Vikram Prabhu and Lakshmi Menon will be seen on-screen together for the second time with the film Pechi, directed by M Muthaiah. The pair was first seen together in Kumki, which was Vikram’s debut film. Pechi will not release in theatres, but will directly appear on Sun Pictures’ OTT platform, Sun Nxt. An official announcement on the same is expected soon.
